About UNHCR:

Within the regional framework of the Solutions Strategy for Afghan Refugees (SSAR), UNHCR continues to facilitate a protection and solutions dialogue through Tripartite and Quadripartite platforms. During the 30th Tripartite meeting held in Islamabad on 18 June 2019, a further commitment was made by the Governments of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Pakistan to ensure that repatriation takes place gradually, voluntarily, in conditions of safety and dignity. The Government of Afghanistan committed renewed efforts towards sustainable reintegration and development. To support these commitments, the Government has formally endorsed the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) and the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF) in 2018, which supports multi-stakeholders in its efforts to address the root causes and drivers of displacement in countries of origin by:

  • Whole of society approach to foster stronger partnerships between government’s line Ministries, UN agencies, development actors, the private sector, NGOs, financial institutions and civil society
  • Enhancing refugee returnees and IDPs reintegration and self-reliance
  • Supporting conditions in places of origin for return in safety and dignity
  •  
  • The Field Assistant will be supervised by the Head of the Field Unit and performs a variety of functions related to Field activities within the office. The supervisor exercises close control and regular review of the work processes and provides regular advice and guidance.
  •  
  • The incumbent keeps frequent internal contacts with staff members in the same duty station to exchange information and with the external contacts generally with officials of national and international institutions, leaders of the refugee community, local population and/or Implementing Partners (IPs) on routine subject matters under the direction of the supervisor.
  • The incumbent will be expected to create networks with the community of women and girls, including the Head of the female Shuras to collect data and to support projects for women; SGBV & SEA cases in the region.

 


Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Field Unit, the incumbent will undertake the following responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in administrative tasks as required such as preparation of reports and meeting authorized personnel and assisting them during field missions.
  • Act as interpreter in the exchange of routine information, contribute to related liaison activities and respond directly to routine queries.
  • Collect data and other information relevant to UNHCR and report to the supervisor accordingly.
  • Keep regular contacts with local authorities and implementing partners as requested by supervisor.
  • In coordination with implementing partners, assist in the reception, registration and provision of assistance to persons of concern to UNHCR.
  • Liaise with local authority counterparts, partners and populations of concern.
  • Direct incidents and problems to the supervisor when they cannot be resolved at their level.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 


Job Requirements:

Essential qualifications, skills and professional experience

Education:

  • High school diploma with certificate in Business Administration, Law and Political Science

Language:                 

  • Knowledge of English and/or UN working language of the duty station if not English and knowledge in local language (Preferably Dari).

Work Experience:    

  • 1 years previous working experience with relevant function, with High School Diploma; or Bachelor or equivalent or higher.

Desirable

  • Completion of UNHCR learning programmes or specific training relevant to functions of the position.
