Muslim Hands International - Afghanistan obtained formal registration from the Ministry of Economy in Afghanistan with registration No. 141 in 2005, and is now firmly established with its Headquarters in Kabul, and is fully engaged in relief and development activities in different parts of the country. The work of Muslim Hands in Afghanistan involves; improving the lives of the poor and vulnerable through the provision of education, health, WASH, Protection, Livelihood, advocacy, Agriculture and other specialized projects e.g. rehabilitation of the disabled, water purification and sanitation schemes, orphan sponsorship scheme, income generation activities and emergency aid/relief activities in Afghanistan. The Afghanistan head office operates in 21 provinces through the head office in Kabul and regional and provincial offices in the respective regions and provinces of Afghanistan. The organization is running and operating by 25 professional core and full time personal of MHAF in its head office in Kabul and each regional office of MHAF deals with a large number of paid and volunteer staff member’s entire the country.

Job Description:

Job Summary:

Gender manager plays a supervisory role in this department, the gender manager should be a female who has comprehensive knowledge and understanding about gender sensitiveness, gender equality, local and international law and convention on women’s empowerment, extensive knowledge of challenges and opportunities facing gender inequality in Afghanistan. The gender manager will maintain a network with colleagues, MHI partners, relevant governmental offices and beneficiaries.

The GM will provide strategic input and advice on gender across the work of the MHI and will work with other departments to ensure that gender equality is mainstreamed within development efforts. She will undertake analytical and advocacy work and also has the responsibility to manage it within deliver specific measures more importantly in area of gender based violence she has the responsibility to contribute to the achievements of objectives and results set out for the organization development, coordination, implementation and monitoring of the MHI gender action plan with a priority on ensuring that women’s empowerment and rights are advanced through the  MHI different program and our work is contributing to an effective national and local response to gender based violence. GM has to ensure a sound gender analysis informs program design and management, and identify strategic actions to be undertaken to improve the quality of program implementation.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Technically reviewing all the organization’s procedure, policy and action plans to make sure it is gender mainstreamed 
  • Advice and support to MHI management on gender issues
  • Advice policy and facilitation of knowledge building on gender issues
  • Management of the overall gender department and program and supervision of the team
  • Creation of strategic partnerships and support to resource mobilization
  • Advocacy and promotion of MHI gender policy, PSEA and safeguarding policy
  • Provides advice and support to MHI management, program and projects focusing on achievement gender integration, interpretation and GBV issues, statistical data on GBV, GRM and PSEA cases thorough research and preparation of top quality analysis and reports.
  • Conducting and leading gender meeting with female staff to check their needs and recommendations to break gender gaps, also this meeting should be a place to inform female staff about the new issues on gender.

  • Job Requirements:


    • University degree, in gender/women studies, sociology, economics, political science, international development or related field; Master’s degree preferred;
    • Five years plus of technical expertise & experience in related field;
    • Fluency in written and verbal English is required;
    • Extensive analytical experience pertaining to gender equality and inclusion;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, including presentation skills – in local and English languages;
    • Strong sense of personal initiative and problem-solving skills;
    • Has identified and implemented activities to address issues of equity and equality;
    • Has ability to work well in a cross-cultural environment;
    • Ability to coach, mentor, delegate appropriately & provide departmental guidance to staff;
    • Good adaptability and ability to work under extreme pressure;
