The Protection Officer will be responsible for implementation/mainstreaming the protection program in Cordaid humanitarian projects for Internal displaced people, refugees and other vulnerable population affected as a result of human made or natural disaster or conflict.  The officer will be liaising with community and assisting assessments and monitoring and evaluation as well overall management and reporting of the protection program in the related provincial office. The position is based at Cordaid provincial offices located in Herat provinces and reportable directly to Provincial Humanitarian Program Manager and indirectly to the, Humanitarian Program Manager and Coordinator.




Functional Responsibilities


  • Ensure implementation of protection mainstreaming in Cordaid humanitarian program in field level
  • In operations applying the Cluster Approach and having collaboration with protection clusters, ensure with Protection Cluster covers all assessed and prioritized protection needs of the affected population and utilize the IDPs footprint during the planning process.
  • Ensure that the perspectives, capacities, needs and resources of the persons of concerns are reflected in the protection strategy, planning processes and operations plan addressing the specific protection needs of women and men, children, youth and older persons, persons with disabilities, minority groups
  • Conduct out-reaches activities to provide the refugee population with relevant information on services and address reported cases or protection concerns
  • Promote confidence building and conflict resolution among populations of concern, authorities, and host communities.
  • Ensure through direct action and advocacy with more senior humanitarian staff that the necessary resources are allocated to enable protection activities to identify and address protection and assistance gaps.
  • Undertake Protection monitoring activities and manage the monitoring evaluation data on field level
  • Identify protection gaps and concerns facing by the returnees and refugees population; in particular women and children of the affected communities and share the information with central office
  • Compile assessment reports on the protection concerns and priorities of the refugee population collected during the protection monitoring activitiess
  • Ensure issues and challenges are addressed in a timely and participatory manner by Informing related department and line mangers
  • Follow up  the referrals with relevant GBV / child protection

    Job Requirements:

    Education/Experience/Language requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • 3 years of experience in the field of humanitarian.
    • Strong understanding of Islamic principles and able to provide protection information through Islamic values and ideology.
    • Strong understanding of protection principles within the Afghanistan context
    • Should be familiar with the area’s culture, traditions, and its sensitiveness
    • Experience in working with and coordinating with INGOs and other stakeholders
    • Should keep a close record of I/NGOs working in protection in the target areas
    • Good capacity building and management skills, including human resource and financial management, communications, and intercultural cooperation skills
    • A networker, diplomatic and results oriented, with the ability to work under stressful and time bound project conditions.
    • Flexible and capable of working in a stressful context.
    • Good oral and written communication skills in English, Dari and Pashtun language.
